Recent events have resulted in workers across the world establishing new home offices and social distancing has no doubt put a strain on everybody’s sanity. We at Wrights have been working at home and have compiled these handy tips to help keep you sane at a time full of new norms and new challenges.
In times such as these, mental health is vital, therefore it is imperative to find effective ways to manage stress levels, and more importantly your sanity. Ensuring your mental health doesn’t suffer with the emotional rollercoaster ride that comes with this period.
Every individual is different and it is important to find what works for you but we’ve put together our top 10 tips on how you can stay sane in any industry.
Eat lunch away from your desk – even if it is just ten minutes to scoff a sanga, getting away from your desk will do wonders for your mood. Give both your eyes and brain a break, they’ll thank you for it, and you’ll end up being more productive.
Practice gratitude – beginning the day with some positivity will set you up with the best start possible. Write down three things you’re grateful for each morning and you’re guaranteed to start the day with a smile.
Take a walk – this is one our Managing Director Doug puts into practice every day. Rain, hail or shine, a walk around the block will refresh your thinking.
Eat healthy – say goodbye to the afternoon slump by filling your day with high fibre food as well as delicious fruit and veggies that will sustain your energy levels throughout the day.
Drink water – studies have shown that mild dehydration can worsen mood, memory and brain performance, keep a reusable bottle on your desk and sip as you go to stay on top of your game.
Get some sleep – your body needs to rest in order to be ready to handle any challenge thrown your way. Sleep more soundly by limiting your exposure to electronic devices before bed. Pull out a book or practice some yoga to get your body into rest mode.
Stay organised – a daily to-do list will help you manage your workload efficiently and feel in control.
Finally, let the little things go – Lost sleep because you realised you didn’t send that super important email? We’ve all been there, but at Wrights we’re trying to not sweat the small stuff. Think of every mistake or accident as a lesson to be learnt, grow from the past but don’t let it have a hold on your future
Remember, you’re only human. Never be ashamed to ask for help when you need it. Reach out to a colleague, family or friend to get the support you need.
