| | | | On 2 February this year Wrights assisted the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) to launch officially the Melbourne Cup 150th celebrations at the home of the 'race that stops the nation' - Flemington Racecourse - in front of more than 150 key stakeholders and full media conglomerate.
The VRC announced an extensive year-long program of initiatives and events to commemorate the milestone, with the help of some of the biggest names in Australian and international racing.
A stellar line up of racing royalty assisted the event proceedings, including: international guests Dermot Weld and Michael Kinane, the duo who firmly cemented the Melbourne Cup on the international stage with Vintage Crop’s win in 1993; Japanese superstars, Yasunari Iwata and Katsuhiko Sumii, who took home the Cup with Delta Blues in 2006; 1985 winning international trainer, John Meagher; three-time Melbourne Cup winner and local hero Lloyd-Williams; and local racing champions Damien Oliver, Glen Boss, Michael Rodd, Steven King and Pat Hyland.
| | Other distinguished guests at the launch included the Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing, the Hon Rob Hulls; City of Melbourne Lord Mayor, the Hon Robert Doyle; VMEC Chairman, Sir Rod Eddington; and Mark De Mestre, grandson of the first Melbourne Cup winning trainer, Etienne De Mestre.
Today's event continues Wrights' 14 year association with the Victorian racing industry, working with the VRC, Country Racing Victoria (CRV) and Racing Victoria (RVL) during its 21 year history.
